The Campus Pride Index Ranks Universities on LGBTQ-Friendliness

From 2014 to 2015, John Heintz of Chicago, Illinois worked as the assistant superintendent of operations and chief legal officer for the Niles Township High School District 219. As an attorney, John Heintz has done pro bono legal work for LGBT clients dealing with discrimination. In an effort to help college students avoid such discrimination, the Campus Pride Index annually rates universities and colleges on their friendliness to LGBTQ students and issues. First launched in 2007, the survey considers issues including a school’s policies, practices, counseling, recruitment, and programs as they relate to LGBTQ students. Campus Pride stresses that with today’s political climate, the group’s purpose and function are as important as ever, with the survey serving a benchmarking tool for assessing schools based on their LGBTQ-friendliness.
