Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago Announces Charitable Hospital Gift

A resident of Chicago, Illinois, John Heintz spent over a year as chief legal officer and assistant superintendent for operations for Niles Township High School District 219 based in Skokie, Illinois; he currently works as a senior legal consultant at Lydian, Inc. Also involved in his community, John Heintz is a member of the Foundation Board of Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC).

Founded in a renovated warehouse on Ohio Street in 1954 by Dr. Paul B. Magnuson, the RIC is a nonprofit organization that provides high-quality patient care through research, education, and scientific discovery. Dr. Magnuson was an orthopedic surgeon who advocated for people with disabilities after he witnessed tragedies of World War II while working as the medical director for the Veterans Administration. The RIC serves as one of the globe’s leading hospital and research enterprises for physical medicine and rehabilitation. “US News & World Report” has named RIC as the number one rehabilitation hospital in America every year dating back to 1991.

In June 2016, RIC announced that Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan had pledged a charitable investment to support AbilityLab, which is the RIC’s research hospital. Scheduled to open in March 2017, the hospital will be named the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in recognition of the donors of the record amount, which is undisclosed.
