Consultant Supports Organization Dedicated to Educational Excellence


John Heintz heads Lydian, Inc., a Chicago-based management consulting firm that he cofounded. The former chief legal officer of Niles Township High School District 219 in a village near Chicago, John Heintz uses his experience as an attorney, educator, and writer to serve clients and contribute to organizations such as the Illinois Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD).

The Illinois ASCD is an affiliate of the global ASCD community, dedicated to excellence in learning, teaching, and leading, according to the ASCD website. The association comprises 115,000 members in more than 120 countries. The global ASCD organization and its affiliates host conferences and provide professional learning opportunities to members, who include superintendents, principals, teachers, and advocates. 

ASCD recently held its 2017 annual conference in Anaheim, California. The three-day event covered a range of topics related to current education issues and trends. "Creating a Welcome Environment for Transgender Students," "Demystifying Graphic Novel Use in the Classroom," and "Avoiding Performance Assessment Pitfalls" were among the conference sessions.

ASCD is now preparing for its Empower18 conference to be held in Boston, March 24-26, 2018. The conference is to include learning sessions, panel discussions, debates, speakers, and interactive opportunities.
